The region approved a $250,000-per-year plan for marketing York Region to international businesses Thursday.

York’s “green” atmosphere is an important component in positioning the region, which is expected to add 320,000 jobs between 2006 and 2031.

Georgina Mayor Robert Grossi wanted to make sure the plan did not overlap pre-existing bodies such as the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance.

“Sometimes, I find everyone is tripping over each other and I was wondering if it’s a good investment,” he said.

The plan is modest and collaborative, focussed on local businesses as opposed to more regional interests, planning commissioner Brian Tuckey explained.

Components include advertising in sustainable business magazine, attending green trade shows and targeted direct mail campaigns.
