Council celebrated beating their fundraising goal for the 2008 United Way campaign, albeit at the expense of the department of finance.

Treasurer Lloyd Russell, a native of Ottawa, had to wear a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey on Thursday due to his department getting bested by that of planning commissioner Brian Tuckey.

Mr. Tuckey’s staff returned 75 per cent of their pledge forms while Mr. Russell’s only managed 61 per cent.

Regional staff and police raised $235,000 for this year’s campaign, beating their target by $10,000 and last year’s total by almost $35,000.
