If Vaughan wants to assume responsibility for Nashville Road, the region may be only too happy to oblige.
Residents around the stretch between Hwy. 27 and Hwy. 50 have repeatedly asked for measures to calm traffic on the road to no avail.
In recent years, regional staff have written four reports on potential changes for Nashville, rejecting lowering the speed limit, installing all-way stops and banning trucks each time.
Vaughan regional councillor Joyce Frustaglio asked why residents’ requests keep falling on deaf ears.
“I have friends who live on Nashville Road and I hear (complaints) regularly,” Mayor Linda Jackson said.
“I’ve championed this with great effort for many years,” she said.
“We’ve tried everything with it.”
She said Vaughan is doing its own study of whether they should ask the region for control of the road. They would then pay for it and be able to enact their own measures.
Several councillors immediately raised their hands, humorously voting in favour of having one less troublesome road to worry about.
