Although the eight nights of Chanukah don’t begin until Dec. 22, United Synagogue Day School is giving the community a head start, as they host the Chanukah Family Bash and Sing-A-Long on Sunday, Nov. 30.
The family event will feature children’s music performer Kayla, DJ the Clown, arts and crafts and snacks.
The United Synagogue Day School is located in the northern branch of Tanenbaum CHAT Kimel Family Education Centre, part of the soon-to-open Joseph and Wolf Lebovic Jewish Community Campus near the intersection of Bathurst Street and Weldrick Road.
Judy Litvak has been an early childhood teacher at United Synagogue Day School for more than 20 years and admits the Chanukah Family Bash is one of the events students and faculty look forward to every year.
“This is one of our bigger community events for the year and it is loads of fun,” Ms Litvak said.
“We started getting the younger students involved last week. Making decorations and spending some extra time educating them as to what Chanukah means to our faith. They are very excited for the bash, it should be wonderful,” Ms Litvak added.
Though the event is in celebration of Jewish traditions, Fern Stancer who does marketing and communications for United Synagogue Day School said the sing-a-long is open to people of all denominations.
“Obviously we are trying to target young Jewish families, but this is also an opportunity for us to make an introduction and for the whole community to get to know us a little better,” Ms Stancer said.
Admission to the Bash and Sing-A-Long is free.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. and goes to 12 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30 at Tanenbaum CHAT, 9600 Bathurst St., north of Carville Avenue/Rutherford Road.
